My name is Paula
Kane and I’m an intern at Pathfinders for Autism. I’m starting this blog to
promote Autism Awareness Month and Pathfinders for Autism’s Beneath the Surface
Campaign. The goal for this campaign is to show people that there’s more to Autism
Spectrum Disorder than meets the eye and to highlight the positive, uplifting
side.
I have an eighteen-year-old brother
with Autism, which is why I am so passionate about it. Throughout the month,
I’ll be sharing some of my own stories and experiences with you, as well as posting
discussion questions and topics for you to comment on.
For those who don’t know much about
Autism, it can be difficult to understand what it really is. Commercials,
statistics, and society in general have a tendency to share information that is
purely based on scientific or medical facts and neglect to include personal
experiences and testimonies. That’s why I’m here…
I want to give people the
opportunity to share stories highlighting the positive, funny experiences
they’ve had by knowing someone with Autism, or by having Autism themselves.
Entries can be submitted directly
on the page via the comment box, or feel free to email me directly at
pkane1@students.towson.edu so I can post it for you anonymously.
The official launch date of the
blog is April 1st! Hope you all enjoy it!
